Update #6: Acoustic
This is a somewhat weekly Chinese MP3 Rotation in which I offer selected pieces of music for download encompassing many different genres.
*All songs are in Mandarin Chinese.
*Files are all 128 kbps.
*Files are zipped, so you need WinZip or WinRar to open them.
*Please comment if you download so I can get a sense of how many people come here.
*Please delete the file(s) after 24 hours as they are for sampling purposes only.
*Please support the artists and purchase their albums if you enjoy what you hear.
*All the songs are ripped from albums that I have bought (a few are gifts from friends) and are hosted by me.
*Don't repost/direct-link these files elsewhere.
*Files are deleted after a new update is added.
*I don't take requests.
*If you would like a song from a previous update, please leave a comment (provide your email!) and I'll try to get it to you.
*Feel free to add me to your friends list for updates.
*I upload what I like, which isn't necessarily new or mainstream.

The following songs are just voice + guitar.

第一個清晨 (1:56)
王力宏
蓋世英雄Live concert演唱會影音全記錄, 2006
Acoustic

Born and raised in Rochester, New York, Leehom Wang didn't start to learn Chinese until he was eighteen years old. A talented musician, he composes almost all of his own songs. He has ventured in to the Japanese market and subsequently released two albums in Japanese. For his two most recent albums, Shangri-la and Heroes of Earth, he promoted his new "chinked-out" style, which features a mixture of traditional Chinese instruments and hip-hop elements.

The live version of this song is special because Leehom is the one playing the guitar while singing. It isn't up to recording studio quality, but I don't think live versions can get any better than this. This song is very peaceful and light. I think Leehom has one of the most beautiful voices in Taiwan.

寶貝(in a day) (2:25)
張懸
My Life Will..., 2006
Acoustic

Deserts started composing and writing music when she was thirteen. She is well-known as a live performer and has been performing for quite a few years before releasing this album. Her voice is light and almost cute at times. She writes all her songs and plays the guitar as well. She has a very "coffeehouse" feel to her music.

Short but sweet. Deserts has two versions of this song on the album, but I like this version better. The song is cute and the epitome of simplicity. She wrote it when she was thirteen (or so I hear) and I absolutely love it to pieces.

表面的和平 (3:40)
陳綺貞
華麗的冒險, 2005
Acoustic

Cheer Chen was and still is a singer-songwriter on the indie music scene. She is known for her distinguishably sweet but strong voice and acoustic music.

This song goes back to the songs of Cheer Chen's early days which basically just consisted of an acoustic guitar and her voice. Somewhat bare yet sung very well.

Some other peaceful/slow songs for your enjoyment.

黃昏 (5:42)
張棟樑
張棟樑, 2005
Pop

Nicholas Teo is a Malaysian artist who won the Astro Talent Quest in 2002 by singing "Huanghun", a song originally sung by Steve Chou (Zhou Chuan Xiong). As a result, Teo has sung quite a few other songs by Steve Chou. Though he first became well-known in Malaysia, he has been gradually gaining popularity in Taiwan and China.

Huanghun is beautiful in its melancholy, and yet there is some hint of hope in the melody. I like the original version by Steve Chou better, but Nicholas Teo does do it justice. There's a nice guitar solo in it as well.

期限 (4:50)
王光良
童話, 2005
Pop

Michael Wong (usually credited as 光良 or Guang Liang), from Malaysia, used to be in a duo with singer Victor Huang (Huang Pinguan) called Guang Liang Pin Guan. They both have their separate solo careers now. Michael Wong spent two years putting together his latest album, Tonghua, which features the work of many acclaimed songwriters.

For the album Tonghua, a contest was held and the best lyrics were chosen.  Qixian was the winner. The lyrics are pretty, but the melody is very beautiful as well.
